Matthew Walter '21 , Graphics Editor October 12, Matthew Walter ' Many red-blooded Americans spend their Sundays watching football. This is where football analysis steps in. Through football halftime shows, commentary, or weekday debate shows like First Take , former NFL players and coaches as well as sports personalities help explain the sport and inform the average viewer. Or, at least they are supposed to. ESPN, however, with its show First Take makes a mockery of genuine football analysis, opting instead for two or more grown men yelling at each other.
It, however, is not at all informative or insightful. Instead of utilizing statistics, facts, and logic to reach their own conclusions, Stephen A and Max Kellerman are forced to take opposing sides of an argument, no matter how controversial or ridiculous it may be. The show exists solely to breed controversy. The two personalities go out of their way to make the most outlandish claims they possibly can.
Highlight hustle. Twenty years ago! Bowl madness. Round-the-clock TV. Niche programming. Procedural obsession. Local TV sportscasting. Yes, snowboarding is a sport. Your cable or satellite bill just kept growing. Papi is great. Then, I gave High Noon a shot and it was ok. I do miss Papi. On cable, remove all ESPN channels from your favorites list. Remember, they will do what the market will bear. It seemed that every time EsPn had a show or personalities I could watch, they would ruin it or fire someone.
All the way, except for the Last Dance and occasionally misfiring my remote and landing on a show. Or maybe watching MNF with sound off. I love all sports. And I keep track of many.
To avoid sPn like I do is not easy. If I had the option of removing it from my cable package, I would. They have no actual writers who I enjoy reading and their radio lineup is straight garbage. The VIP membership is well worth the price of admission. What blows my mind is that Dan Le Betatd who is a proud person of Cuban decent can be so into the socialist nonsense that ESPN continues to move towards. As a person of Cuban decent myself I feel especially passionate against all things pro socialism.
My guess is that fake as all get out Dan Le Betatd will have no problem working alongside a Che Guevara supporter like Kap. Thanks for compiling all of this into one article. This is why I like Whitlock. Americans spent 31 billion hours watching sports in , a number that has soared over the years. But ESPN is headed in a different direction. On ESPN2, you might even find something really unique, such as lumberjack competitions.
In recent years, though, it seems the network has decided instead to focus more on the drama and gossip inside the world of sports. The problem, of course, is many people who watch sports want to watch sports, not TMZ. And aside from all of the gossipy analysis, politics is another thing that is driving down viewership.
