Since the guns used in IDPA competition are generally more in line with what you might take to the range for plinking, or what you might carry concealed, we will focus mostly on guns and gear for the IDPA Nationals.

When it comes to ammunition used among those competitors, it's a pretty even split between shooters using factory loads or loading their own ammo.
Among those buying ammo off the shelf, Federal leads the way with about 1 in 4 shooters relying upon it. For those shooters loading their own rounds, Blue Bullets, X Treme and Berry's are the top three brands for bullets.
Springfield Armory was next with 12 percent, while many other brands made up the balance. The most recent survey data doesn't include models of pistols from each manufacturer. Competition holsters are another area with significant differences.
In our area, Glock pistols, models, 17, 19, 34, dominate SSP. For ESP, pistols in 9mm Luger are favored. Everyone else uses the Glock. Glock 19 is 1 in my area, followed by Glock 34, then 's in 45 acp. Every now and then I see a Smith or Walther, but Glock seems to be the go too. Depending on the division, and whether you want to game the game or play the game. It's up to you. ESP, 9mm guns. Someone's to modded for ssp Glock.

The Glock 35 is better than a Glock 34 for two reasons - softer shooting and makes bigger holes.
OTOH my Glock 41 makes larger holes and shoots softer than the other two. This is assuming all are loaded to a PF. Go with a G34 if you don't reload. All of my competition Glocks have sub 2 lb triggers. Here in AZ But back in NC Glock was the hotness in SSP. When the X optic ready came out, everybody showed up with them practically overnight.
Pretty much anybody shooting a stock gun has a NV next to their name around here. MY glockoid is a Smith and Wesson. I shoot a Glock 34 mostly. I may have to steal that phrase. The adjustable grip was a real blessing to me. It's a mix at our club. Not crazy when you consider how much easier shooting target focused with a clear aiming point is compared to the old fashioned way. Sights that force you to do the opposite are dumb.
